Saturday, October 11: Freedom Not Fear 2008

Freedom not Fear 2008 Poster

On Saturday, October 11th, movements and organisations in major cities all over Europe, USA and Asia will mobilize an international day of action under the banner "Freedom Not Fear".

Here in Copenhagen, ConTune in association with and sponsored by the Danish worker's union for IT-professionals, PROSA, will host a massive party for the free use of technology, and in protest against the recent decisions the European governments have been making in regards to the ill-famed media license, telecommunications logging, censoring the Internet, etc.

We want to stop the taxation of modern technology, especially because this tax will affect students in particular - and others who aren't exactly among the wealthiest demographic in society. Instead of taxing it, we should be utilizing the immense potential that all of these technological advances hold to share knowledge and promote creativity and sites of free expression on the Internet. We should be using open standards everywhere applicable, and further developing the standards that already exist.

Our event is also in protest against the systematic registration, mass surveillance and control that is gaining more and more foothold in our political and social climate. The latest example of how the mass surveillance mania affects us, here in Denmark, is the Swedish surveillance law (FRA-loven) which enables The Swedish Defense to monitor all electronic communication even in our own parliament.

Our event will feature awesome live visuals and art installations by VJ team Oppe Om Natten, and a wide range of music presented by both live acts and DJs!

Review: Spontanous ConTune party at Club Faust

Saturday the 9th of August was an interesting day for ConTune.

British IDM artist Keef Baker, Belgian tribal industrial band Empusae, and Latvian power noise act Narcose X (also of Rosewater) had played a gig in Nykøbing Falster on the M/S Stubnitz the night before, and Jonas decided to bring them all up to Copenhagen for a spontaneous party at the Copenhagen nightclub FAUST, where Jonas (as Mr. Man), Keef Baker and the Narcose X guys were going to spin tunes along with industrial/goth DJ Zombiejäger.

We had initially expected to DJ for basically ourselves and maybe 5 other people, and just for fun, Narcose X decided to do a live show.So we got a few SMS chains going, and got a couple of friends to write a on a few online messageboards for us at around 20:30.

The night started a bit slow, but before we knew it, the place was suddenly PACKED, and the night turned out to be a HUGE success!
Narcose X delivered a stellar performance, and there was a good amount of people who thoroughly enjoyed the concert.

We DJ'ed everything from avant garde, rock and punk to hip hop, electro, industrial, drum n bass, speedcore and noise, and the crowd was there dancing through all of it all the way til closing!
There was a great atmosphere throughout the night, and everyone just had loads of fun.

So thanks to everyone who came to the party!! You rock!
